KOTA BAHRU, KELANTAN, 29 July 2024: On Monday, from 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM, Course Participants (CP) of MCSCJ Serial 53/2024 received comprehensive insights into Malaysia – Thailand Border Security, focussing the state of Kelantan. The session featured presentations from three key agencies: the 8th Infantry Brigade of Malaysia, the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
The lecture from the 8th Infantry Brigade was delivered by Lt Kol Mohd Azmi bin Mohd Nor, the Chief of Staff from 8th Infantry Brigade, entitled “𝑩𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑫𝒚𝒏𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒄𝒔: 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑻𝒉𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝑨𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒂 – 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝑵𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒏 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒂.” The lecture was attended by a total of 180 CP from Malaysia and abroad. The lectures provided in-depth analysis of the various challenges faced in securing the border. It covered both traditional and non-traditional threats and examined the impacts towards national security.
The lecture on “𝑰𝒔𝒔𝒖𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑩𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚” was presented by DSP Jaswent Singh A/L Sadu Singh, the Technical Staff Officer from General Operation Force (GOF), Internal Security and Public Order Department, Bukit Aman. His presentation provided a comprehensive overview of the GOF’s roles and functions and emphasising on border management and control. The presentation also highlighted the statistics of successes achieved in 2023 and up to June 2024, discussed the challenges faced and outlined future directions for enhancing national border security.
Meanwhile, Lt Kdr (M) Nor Fadhli bin Abu Bakar @ Arifin, Commanding Officer of KM AMANAH from the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), delivered a lecture entitled: “𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝑰𝒏𝒇𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑩𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒆𝒄𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒕𝒚: 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒕𝒉 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝑬𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑺𝒂𝒇𝒆𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒂 – 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓.” The lecture focussed on sharing of experiences and knowledge that relates to the challenges of maintaining Malaysia’s maritime borders, economic benefits and infrastructure development for the MMEA.
The lectures were structured into two distinct segments. The first segment, spanning two hours, was dedicated to detailed presentations by each agency on their respective topics. The second segment, that lasted for an hour, was an interactive Q&A session. During this time, CP were actively engaged and raised pertinent issues. All speakers responded with their extensive knowledge and experiences. The involvement and enthusiasm of the CP were particularly noteworthy, reflecting their commitment to refining their forthcoming case study on security.
At the end of the lectures, the Chief Directing Staff of MAFSC, Kol Sukiman bin Mohamed Ghani, presented tokens of appreciation formally to the three speakers. The gesture was a heartfelt expression of gratitude for their valuable contributions.
