PUTRAJAYA, 14 Nov 24: The Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) conducted the Officerβs Leadership and Ethic Module 3 (OLEM 3) class on Professional Leader in Military Organisation Hikmat Hall. This lesson was delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Associate Professor Dr. S. Ananthan (R), Head of the National Defence University of Malaysia Institute of Executive Education (NIEEd), in the two-hour session with all the Course Participant (CP) of Malaysian Command and Staff Course βJointβ (MCSCJ) Serial 53/24.
OLEM 3 is the module designed to prepare the CP with complete knowledge on becoming the future leader for each respecting unit after graduating from the course. Shortly, it is compulsory to embed the values of professionalism and high integrity in commanders for the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) and other nations. OLEM 3 also focuses on the quality of leadership that will be portrayed by the CP when serving their country and services with complete confidence and courage.
The class aims to encompass a thorough understanding of military leadership with the βProfession of Armsβ theme. It also emphasises distinguishing participants from other fields of professions, articulating the Profession of Arms idea. It purposely makes the argument on the standing of the leadersβ noble profession in society. In addition, the concept of a leader becoming the steward of the profession was also exposed to enable CP to serve as a better leader in the MAF.
The elements of academic theories, military doctrines, and past case studies have been widely used to ensure that the gist of the concept can be delivered effectively. The characteristics of a leader taken from these published documents have enhanced the understanding of leadership values. It also included and considered the contemporary threats in the current and future environment and the new generation of soldiers that will be encountered by these future leaders. The elements of responsibility, corporate expertise, and challenges to corporations were also appropriately delivered.
Through these active interactions, the students not only gained the basic knowledge of professional leadership but also gained a deeper understanding of how to better serve their units in the future.
